Actually lard is an excellent cutting & tapping lube for aluminum.  Mix in some mineral lard oil or diesel to thin it if desired.  At least it is non-toxic, unless you cook with it of course.

Nah. A little friendly banter now and then is what helps keeps the "fun" in Metalworking Fun IMO.

Mayhem is a pretty fart smeller, and can dish it out as well as he takes it. He's pretty dang good at metalworking too. Not that I would ever admit to saying that...

Too bad Greg you couldn't find wood that didn't have that darker stripe down the middle of the boards. If you paint it then I guess it won't make any difference. What color would you paint a desk like that? Maybe Industrial grey would look nice.

That's the heartwood and I suspect Greg went to great pains to make the pattern symmetric. I also suspect it will look pretty darned nice once it's varnished.

Had to get rid of my scrap wood some where BF. Like you say once they've brushed a coat of heavy enamel over it my discretion will be covered up.
