Upgraded Printer
#11
Yea, I did some more research on the RatRig and it does seem to be a nice printer. The 300 would be a work space upgrade for me so maybe in the future I'll look into it. I do like the open source part of it.

What to do with my Mk3s+?

I ordered the Prusa 3.5 upgrade for my Mk3S+. I decided that was the best bang for the buck rather than trying to sell the current printer and ordering a Mk4. It should provide the speed improvement I am looking for but no changes to the extruder. I have a small investment (minor financial but major convenience factor) in E3D REVO nozzles that I wanted to continue to use and the new extruder in the 3.9 and 4.0 updates would have rendered them useless.

The Update package arrived yesterday. I printed the new parts last night and will be installing the update today. Kinda nice being retired (last day was May 10th) as I now have time to do fun stuff whenever I want.

RatRig thoughts.

I had submitted reservations for a 300mm and a 400mm RatRig - Got an email from RatRig asking if I want to move forward with my 300 reservation, my 400 reservation, both, or, I assume, the unstated, cancel both. I’ll see how the 3.5 performs over the weekend for the ‘cancel both’ option, but continue to go back and forth between the 300 and the 400 option.

The 300 is probably the most practical size, the the 400 is only a few hundred more and has a much heavier build plate. But it is BIG. Not HUGE like the 500 (the 500 is so large that it does not easily fit thru a standard interior doorway ... possibly the same problem as building a boat in a basement), but still BIG.

Congrats on the retirement and you'll soon wonder how you ever had time to work because you're so busy!
