I picked up a shear yesterday, a power shear not a stomp shear, but the motor and who knows what else from the power part of it is missing. So I'm thinking of converting it to a stomp shear. Any suggestions? I have pics here: The Shear

Ok, it's NOT an Interstate, it was just sold by Interstate Machinery. I can't find a brand on it anywhere.

Gain some weight.
That must have used a pretty beefy motor by the looks of it.

I found some pics and info on other presses, larger than this one, and I probably won't be putting a motor on it. Missing is the heavy flywheel and some of the clutch parts. So we're down to hydraulics, stomp and maybe a gas engine. Dunno about that last one. The shaft turns freely and the blade and holder move up and down with just a pipe wrench. Not sure how much force it'd take to cut something tho. May take some sheet metal out there tomorrow and see.
I have some aluminum for some front panels that I need to make that are really thin, this should have no trouble cutting it with only a pipe wrench powering it. Something heavier tho ... I may need to put that weight I lost back on!!

Are the blades sharp? With aluminum you'll need sharp blades, but you already know this.

I'll find out tomorrow but they look like they are.
When I was preparing to unload and the actual unloading of it the wife kept saying "this is not going to end well". Did it without incident, not even a drop of blood!

They're sharp! Using the pipe wrench to turn the shaft, I cut a piece of 0.050" aluminum and it went thru like butter. I don't forsee going thicker than that but based on how far it has to go I don't know that I'll be able to use a pedal. May have to use a lever on the shaft.

Too much travel to for a pedal so I opted for a lever. I'm also going to redo it and use just the 2x2 tubing and eliminate the 2" angle The angle isn't necessary 'cuze the u-bolts are long enough. I originally thought they wouldn't be based on what home depot said to use for 2". The ones they had in stock were too short, then it turned out they were too wide, more for 2-3/8".
So here's the temporary setup.

I updated the URL in the first post so it works now. I also re-did the lever, got rid of the piece of angle iron, but no pic of that yet. I originally used the angle 'cuze the u-bolts were going to be short, then I realized I didn't have the u-bolts and had to buy some. The new ones were long enough.
