These are a couple of ball turners I made. The welded up one was made to see if the design would work, it did, so I made a second one with a few improvements. I wanted one that cut vertically, could be clamped in the tool post and could be used either from the front or back. I use it mostly from behind.
I didn't have a mill at the time, so milling work was done on the lathe using a vertical slide. Other work was done on the linisher or by hand. It cuts a fair size ball, 2"+ from memory, but I haven't used it for quite a while. Last time was to make a Delrin panel hammer.
