2" x 72" High Speed Belt Grinder Build
#1
I have a high quality 2" x 48" belt Grinder, the Jancy RadiusMaster, that is a very versatile machine, but a times I would like a few other features. So I started to order parts to build a 2" x 72" high speed belt grinder, I have seen quite a few examples and some interesting designs, I'm going to take a little bit from a multitude of ideas and build a unit I believe will fit my needs and wants. I'm looking for belt speeds in the 3600-5000 fpm range.

I have just recently (just yesterday actually) found a local source of extremely high quality 2" x 72" belts. The company supplies one of the local steel foundries with an excellent 50 grit zirconium oxide, cloth backed belt, sourced from Carborundom. As the supplier buys them in bulk for the foundry, I can get them at their unit cost, roughly have price from the mail order suppliers and are in stock locally.

For those who are interested, I'll post a build thread. When I get started

I'm definitely interested in this thread. A belt grinder is on my long list of projects and is working its way to the top.

Your Radius Master is a very versatile machine, what other features would a 2 x 72" give you that the Radius Master doesn't?

Different size radius rollers, different kinds of platens and possibly variable speeds. I'm also very interested in the actual build, I need a good shop project, where I'll probably using the RadiusMaster to build the 2 x 72. I have the motor, the drive wheels and a few of the other pieces.

A belt grinder is also on my list but shows no sign of approaching the top of the list. I'll look here for inspiration.
