@ arvidj - After experimenting - taps 1 and 3 seem to do the job well - but I have used tap 2 because I am in no hurry. 30 holes tapped: 40 to go.
I have borrowed a Morse taper 2 tapping device, but not used it due to noob status and likely never need to repeat this number of taps again.
Drilled (and tapped) 70 holes using Clarke CMD300MD which is hobby mill, but perfect for my needs. Plan to buy bigger mill when I retire in 6 months time.
I only do metalwork for a hobby, but love it just the same...
End project is to provide milling bed for my Warco WM200V lathe.
... and yes, I use a lot of cutting fluid, and I use my hobby mill to guide my taps for perfect vertical alignment. :)
