We had a job in house a couple months ago that was a bit of challenge at first.
1.750-6 Threaded Shafts 7.5" long. Material was C1144 Stressproof Steel.
First of all, it required the use of our tailstock, which to be quite honest, I have had VERY limited experience using on this new machine.
Second of all, the there was very little room to get tooling into location at the start of the part due to the center for the tailstock being down inside a counterbore at that end of the piece.
In any event, with the help of Pixman, and several others in another machining forum, I was able to successfully get these parts made, and was very pleased with the results!
Never again will large course threads be a cause for anxiety, because these surely were!!!
