Seriously, that is a very robust saw. Most of us would love the chunk of bar stock being used as the feed weight.

I'd have to say that tyre (a.k.a. tire) in the background is probably closely related to the other one on the opposite end of the axle.

Can you get some close-up photos of the area where the missing part would be? We could collectively come up with a reverse engineered design for it.

I've got one of those, it's tucked away in storage at the minute, will see if I can dig it out and take 

some pics.

I sold it on fleabay a while back and then had a mishap getting it out of the van at home.....snapped the blade arm casting clean in two  wasn't best pleased as it had sold for good money, buyer was 

even less impressed as he'd driven 70 miles to collect the bloody thing

I have a 40s era, 4" x 4" Keller power hacksaw in storage, its fun to watch, but slower than hell, to get a good cut on a 3" stock, it takes about 25 minutes.
