Tom, someday I'm gonna make a BXA size parting blade holder like that but not with the slant that requires one to adjust the height each time the blade is extended or retracted.

Here's my Phase II version that came with my QCTP set. I've never used it. Very crudely made and without the side taper so it would only be good for flat blades.

Steve,
I've never understood that angle. It's not like a couple of degrees of back rake is going to significantly change the way the tool performs, but it sure is a pain when adjusting the extension and center height.

That's one of the reasons I went with the Aloris BXA 71 using carbide inserts. When I using the narrowest inserts I can fit on it, it cuts great on my old 11" SB.

It holds the blade nice and tight and doesn't move around when tightened.

mine does, don't know why maybe its just worn out on the wedge

TomG,
Nice parting video sir.
That is one sweet looking Hardinge also. Hope to own one of those one day.

Thanks!
The Hardinge is definitely my baby. I bought her new in the mid 80's and she has served me very well over the years. The lacquer is starting to show its age though, gotta figure out a way to repair the chips. It's too bad they didn't switch to polyurethane, it would have been a lot more durable.

Old subject but,
Here's a coupla pics of some parting I did today.
It was 2.5" scrapanium that I bored to 2" , cleaned the OD and parted off.
980 rpm, power feed, smooth as silk on the 16 x 60, prolly not so slick on a little 9" or less.

What type of parting tool did you use Steve? You got some nice, blue curly chips there.

Ed, it's just an ole bit of HSS parting tool. The curls were coming off the blade the same colour as the piece but turned blue about 1/8 of an inch from the cut.
