Thanks Willie, Darren, but I'm no further ahead, I don't understand words with no vowels like FLV (F'in Lovely Video?) or VLC (Very Lax Communication?). Maybe I'll ask my BIL (there IS a vowel in that) about it, then he can hold my hand as he reads me the pre-school primer for the procedure.

Thanks for the tip about the VLC player Darren.
Now I just need to figure out how to get it to remove the permanent zoom of the picture. I've tried every zoom and aspect ratio setting I could see and I'm still loosing the outer portions of the video.
