That's a good job, Ed. It's also the safest place for the X axis scale, being further away from any (or most) spinning bits. The small sacrifice of not being able to get the tailstock quite as close to the cross slide as before is a small price to pay.

My tailstock has plenty of travel so it hasn't been a problem yet. I need to make a stop for the tailstock to run into since I ran it into the scale once, but just a gentle nudge. And I need to make a swarf shield for it yet also. Ed

I had to check the required clearance and ensure I had a thin enough spanner, of course. Unfortunately, this created another problem - the DRO scale then interfered with the saddle-lock bolt, which I had to change too. Hopefully the photos will make it clear.
