Jet JMD 18 spindle/quill bearing grease?
#1
While Im waiting for some companies to get back to me about bearings for my Johnson Model B, Im starting to work on a Jet JMD 18 mill and have some more questions. Im curious what type of grease to use for the spindle/quill bearings. I want to clean and repack them. Also, what grease for the sliding splines?
Is there a specific break in procedure after greasing the bearings, such as run it for X amount of time, then adjust preload etc?? I dont know a lot about this if you cant tell.
Im just starting to clean the crud off everything and checking things out. It should be a good machine for my limited use. Thanks again for the help.

There is an interesting post somewhere on here from Rickabilly, where he states that when he was specifying lubricants, he used what was commonly available or on hand. His point was that as long as you match the lubricant with the application, you should be fine.

This reminds me that I haven't seen Rick online for some time. I hope all is well...

Mayhem, so if I used a wheel bearing grease like a NLGI 2, something good for low and high temps I should be ok?

I would imagine that would be fine.
