Chuck key management
#1
While ravenously rifling through a friends deceased Dad's goodies I came across this idea, which I think is brilliant.

There is one of those "rare earth" magnets on the hub of my wood shop drillpress quill handle and the chuck key is learning to reside there always (?)
I used some double sided sticky tape to keep the magnet from sliding across the chrome hub while I remove the key.
When I get around to putting magnets on my machine shop drill presses, mills and lathes I'll determine if the tape is required.

Sasq, my problem never was REMOVING the key, it was to find it for the next bit change.

Nice. I have a chuck for my lathe tailstock that I can't find the key for... now to find or replace the key and put some magnets in the proper places. Have you found a good training method for the keys... to get them to go to the magnets ALWAYS? ;-D

Sorry Ken, but a man who cannot be trained couldn't possibly train his keys. I have enough magnets for the other drill presses and mills in my metal shop but I haven't even installed them yet. I used a bit of double sided sticky tap on that chrome hub on the drill in the pic because it would slide around as I tried to pull the key off. The stuff in the machine shop shouldn't require the tape.
