RF45 mill breakin recommendations
#1
Since I get a second chance at this, what do you guys recommend for a proper breakin for a new gear head mill? It came with oil in the gearbox but I plan on changing that out. So far I have only confirmed it runs and spins in the correct direction.

Should I do the breakin first and then change the oil or change it before? My old mill had somewhat thicker oil than what I used in the lathe but I don't know if this one is the same or similar.

Any other sugguestions are welcome.

I'd change the oil first, then look at it carefully to see if you can see any crud or sand particles in it. Put the oil in a white pan , the particles , if any will show up better.

I would run the break-in procedure on page 15 of this manual.

That mill is an RF-45 clone also.

This is the recommended oil for our mills.

I would change the oil prior to running the mill too much. The stuff they call oil that is installed at the factory may be oil but it's mystery oil. My mill had what looked like used motor oil in it when I got it.

Thanks for the link Ed, that Grizzly manual is way more detailed than the Enco version.
