I went through that with the lead screw in my lathe tail stock. Metric diameter with an imperial pitch.
I just bought a slightly larger diameter of imperial acme rod (standard dimensions) and a new bronze nut and turned them to fit the tail stock.
I'm considering doing the same thing but I'll need a mill to complete the task so it'll be a while. The vise will work as is for now. It's certainly better than no cross vise.
