I use both styles.
The chair type like Bill has (mine isn't a Moore
) takes longer to use, but it is more precise. The Starrett is very quick and precise enough for most applications. It lives in the coolant trough on my vise, so it's always within reach.
The Starrett also does a great job of picking up holes (larger ones better than smaller ones). I've checked it against my co-ax indicator and it works amazingly well.
