I can't not think of the last time I bought a 3D printer , 2 actually. Had a PRUSA and a resin printer. Ended up selling both to a friend for $100. The were great dust collectors.
I had the Bambu X1C in mind but decided I would not be happy with the closed Bambu ecosystem. Of course I am also complaining about the PITA build of the totally open RatRig ecosystem. In summary, there is no pleasing me.
Having a printer is strange. It sits there doing nothing and then, out of the blue, I need a 'thing', and it is a lifesaver. I was doing a brake overhaul on the 2018 Golf R. I removed the rubber bellows type seal from the electric parking brake but was unable to install the new one as it was a strange fit. I am sure there was a special VW tool that could be used to reinstall the seal but I didn't have one. Took some measurements, drew up something that had the correct dimensions and looked something like this ... about 3 inches in diameter and 2 inches high
Printed it with ASA (a little over an hour) and it was the perfect size to push the metal lip of the seal over the edge parking brake mechanisms.
It's these little bits and pieces that are printed to fill in the little gaps in life that seems to justify at least the Mk3.5 printer.
