Do you have a draw bar? I was planning to make one for my ER40 chuck but then I found out that it is possible to buy extra long machine bolts. I bought mine from a local outfit called McFadden-Dale. I'm sure McMaster-Carr also sells them. One bolt cost $15 but it saved me the trouble of machining a draw bar. I added a shoulder washer I made that centers the head of the bolt on opening at the headstock end.
This is similar to what I used except mine was black oxide steel. Obviously a bigger lathe will require a longer bolt.
