Brown Boggs No 78 Refurb
#1

  1. Over the New Years holidays I finally managed to refurbish the Brown Boggs No 78 shear that I picked up many years ago.

  1. I started by using a length of 3/4 x 2 Cold Rolled Flat Bar, milled the end to 0.6" x 1-1/2" to fit the handle socket, then milled a 1/8" radius round-over edge to all four sides to make the handle easier on the hands.
  1. I then took a piece of 1/2" x 2" Hot rolled flat bar and bent the offset bends to make a hold down. The end was then marked out and cut so that it was parallel to the top of the lower knife blade.

  1. The whole assembly was then power wire brushed to remove the rust, and multiple layers of flaking off paint, then it was sprayed with John Deer Green and Yellow Rust Paint.
  1. I used 3/16 brass to make a Gib.
  1. A length of 1/2" redi-rod was then added to make up a length stop.

  1. Only step left is waiting for the replacement blades that are ordered to arrive.
