Getting ready to start a sub plate for my little 1,800 lb. 6 x 14 1940's mill. Sub plate will be built out of .625 6061 and will have 84 holes drilled 23/64 and tapped 7/16-14 and will receive a double threaded insert 7/16-14 OD and 5/16-18 ID.
I`m doing the inserts as I`m not confident of the ability of the aluminum to hold threading long term. I know there is better aluminum for the job but the 6061 is the most affordable for me. I`m retired and on a very fixed income. I Will take pics along the way. I`m very new to milling so will be taking my time.
I have a been working with a late 1970`s early 80`s 9 x 22 Taiwanese lathe for about a year and a half but the mill has only been up and running for about 2 months. I worked on cleaning the mill up and getting it running for a couple of months before that.
