Side clamps are useful and handy on occasion but as Vinny was alluding, don't trust them for heavy cuts. They seem to clamp tightly but I have had parts move and come loose while using them, so I only use them for light set-ups. In your set-up specifically, the angle plate has tremendous leverage on the clamps and if you take a heavy cut near the top, it will pull out.
