BTW u have a nice big shop is that a private shop u work out of or for a business ?
Sorry - must have missed that. About 12 years ago my wife and I bought a 3500 square meter (a little over 3/4 acre) block up in the hills East of Perth. Our agreement was that she could have the house that she wanted if I could have the workshop that I wanted. Back then there were restrictions on the size of a workshop that you could have and it was proportional to the overall block size. I had to put in for special permission to exceed that size and managed to get approval for a 12.2m x 7.6m x 3.0m (40' x 25' x 9'10") workshop.
This is strictly private although for several years, I did run a DJ and lighting company out of it. However, this was an after hours business and I stepped down as company director in September 2009. It has only been recently that I have got the gear out and the shop reconfigured to have a machine shop in one of the three bays. The hoist has gone into the middle bay, as my back can no longer deal with crawling under cars or trying to contort myself into engine bays in vehicles where the engine is designed to drop out of the car for it to be worked on.
I'm actually paid to think for a living but I would go crazy if I didn't have an outlet to use my hands. I grew up in a family of mechanics and have spent a good portion of my life in mechanic shops and was frustrated with the size of shop that I could have out in the burbs...
We were lucky to buy and build before the prices went through the roof. To buy and build today would easily cost us five times what it did in 2003.
Thanks Thanks for sharing Very Nice shop there.. hopefully on my next move I can do better than 1 car garage.. if this New Job comes through il make sure the house will have a hefty 2-3 car garage else a detached fully loaded . last few years I didn't have an interest to fiddle much .. but than when I got my SB lathe and new mill seems like I got back my ole dream again.. its nice to keepin busy beets getting depressed
