That's an old trick from way back that I've used before. I prefer to use chalk though since I have chalk but I ran out of lipstick.
And, that doesn't work when you've got outlets installed already and there's no way in hell I'm going to take them out. They were a bugger to install. 12 gauge wire is a pain to work with compared to 14 gauge.

That's why I did all the wiring here in pipe and used stranded #12.
