Yeah, you won't have to worry about throwing chips across the garage with a band saw. Since I am only in a home shop environment I don't have to concern myself with "fast". One nice thing about the horizontal band saws is that most of them are equipped to shut themselves off at the end of a cut. And you can stack/bundle multiple pieces of stock in the vice jaws and cut multiple pieces at the same time. Although it is not recommended to do so, a lot of people start the cut in the saw and then walk away to do other things while the saw is busy chewing away at the material being cut. When the saw shuts off, go back and rinse/repeat if you are cutting a lot of pieces. While I haven't cut any 12" flat stock on my saw, I have cut 6 1/2" round stock on occasion. I shudder at the thought of having to go back in time and having to spend several hours with a hack saw to get through the material. Now it's one of those "set it and forget it" jobs for me.   Cool
