If I had space for one, I'd have one. If nothing else it's THE tool for blind broached keyways.
But they are good for much more than that. The face mills on my milling machine can far outperform a shaper for material removal rates and perhaps even flatness (if the shaper isn't run correctly), but there's no other way to get that particular finish.
