I don't get into my shop much lately, too busy helping my son and his fiancé fixing up the house that it lives in.
I did get a few minutes to touch up the cast iron wheel balancing stand I had recently bought for $20. In order to fit it under the wheel on my surface grinder, I had to dress about 10mm (.400") off the O.D. of a "sacrificial" wheel that was already well under it's original 7" diameter.
The surprise was that the tips of the rails needed only .002" to clean up.
I'll need to order a few thumbscrews and find or make a balancing arbor and it's "good to go." I'm hoping to find a miscategorized arbor on eBay for cheap. The ones I find range in price from $250 to over $500, and this thing isn't worth that to me. I think I may throw it onto the milling machine, mill flats at each end and drop roll pins in to guarantee the arbor and wheel don't roll past those "thumb cuts" meant to catch it.
