Funny you guys mention abrasive cutoff saws. Just yesterday my "future daughter-in-law" and son were working on their soon-to-be home (where my shop is) and Stephanie needed a metal rod to support some part of her freshly pruned rose bush. My son Brian started heading into the shop. saying "I'll just cut it on the bandsaw". I stopped him and explained that cutting a Ø 3/16" 1018 CRS rod with a 4/6 mixed tooth saw blade would be a great way of making a skip-tooth blade and mashed rod.
So I recalled that my dad had stashed a 14" abrasive chop saw in the woodworking shop. I climbed over the crap lying all over and dug it out from under a cluttered workbench. It worked PERFECT for the job. I'm so glad we have it, and equally glad I even remembered it was there. No place to put it in my shop right now, but handy enough that I'm going to find or create a new spot for it.
