Seems you would have a model 100 0160. Those were available with integral Morse Taper or R8 shanks, as well as socket for JT6. You'll have to wait and see what you bought, unless you have a link to the website or some documentation.

I have two Albrecht chucks. One is the 0-3mm on the 1/2" sensitive drill shank, a dream to use with micro drills. The other a 0-1/2" on an odd 5/8" straight shank. You are correct in that the shorter straight shank is a little less likely to require dropping the knee of the machine to get it in when you've located position of a hole, or at least minimize the drop. The shank on mine is only about 2-1/2" long and that's plenty. No visually detectable runout on either chuck!
