Rob, Are you going to put the fumes directly through the fan? most flue assisters I have seen blow into a tee across the top of the fume inlet and extract by venturi effect. Mind you, you will get psoitive fume extraction and if the hood is a fair bit above the forge it will draw enough cooler air in to keep the fan and duct fairly cool. I am going to have to do something along these lines for mine. Good to see it lit, and glad it didn't put the fire all over the shop. Of course the whole groupwill want a video of it when it's finished! You can often find that woodburner suppliers sell thin (around 1") firebrick in flat sheets to cut up, you could make a lining with that. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIY-FIRE-BRICK...1259107303
