I knew that question would be asked.
The threading tool I'll be using for threading is barely long enough to thread that 2.25" length so a crash is a real possibility. Another reason is that if I screw up the long piece I've screwed up two nuts. If I thread them individually and screw one up, I have the possibility of getting the other one right. Screwy logic, I know.
