I was turning the spindle shaft for my countershaft project today and though I would try turning between centres (I know, I can't believe I have never tried this before either) anyways to cut a short story even shorter, I tweaked my tailstock a bit and was able to get slightly less than 1/2 thousand difference between ends. I though that was pretty darn impressive for a lathe that's been around for 60 years or so.
