Yes, the moving wedge gib screws were what got hung up because the carriage moves through the split. A pusher like Steve's (and yours) doesn't move through the wood, so wouldn't get hung up.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to completely uncover the splitter today, 4 inches of new snow, and the road crew trucks throwing more snow over the already high banks meant shoveling. I did get the tarp up for about half the splitter but the rest is frozen into block ice. I didn't want to tear it, but I;ll get it chipped off tomorrow, and get you some photos.
