Using up old welding wire.

Darren, it's not the flux core wire that is dirty. It's the little one pound spool of solid wire that has been sitting on the shelf collecting dust and surface rust for years on end.

Arvid, that's a good thing to know about the cleaning pads putting that much drag on the wire. I wouldn't have though the spring clips were that strong, but apparently they are. If/when I get some I'll have to remember to check that and maybe spread the spring clip a bit to ease the squeeze.
