Hi Dave - nothing wrong with trying to find an easier way, sometimes it can turn out to be a better way. 
Me - I would try anything I had.
First try it out on a bit of scrap and now you are looking at power tools THINK SAFETY you don't want it flying across the room.
You also need to think about SELF SAFETY. - hands and face especially.
Go for it. See which one suits best.
