Got the "damped" head for the boring bar in today. Aside from some scuffs on the bottom of it, doesn't really look used. It takes a TNMG33x insert, I thought it was the larger size.
You can see in the end shot how they drilled holes, filled them with a couple of carbide slugs and a spring, them sealed with a pressed-in steel plug. It helps further damp vibration that causes chatter. This is probably the longest head they made for it. With this one on it the total length is a hair over 20", and you can use at least 12" hanging out. If I need to, I wouldn't hesitate to hang it out 16" and see what it would do.
