The first thread I cut on my current lathe ended up with the correct TPI but shaped more like a saw tooth. It was then I found out that 30 degrees on my compound really means 60 degrees. So I wouldn't make that mistake again, I took a scribe and with the compound set to the proper angle I scratched a line along the side of the compound. Makes it a whole lot easier setting it up.
