I made one of these as well Mine had a turned threaded steel insert for the threaded bar to fit in. I spent hours polishing that G clamp for its O level debut ...

Looks like you have this casting all sorted Graham
I started my furnace last year and it still isnt finished ! Talk about a slow worker. Although in my defence... I have also started many other projects that are in the to be finished pile

I'm not an ''expert'' on casting but I've cast quite a few things over the years 40 odd [years not castings]!!since my Dad & I built the first furnace, since worn out & re-built twice, like you I've got lots of things to make & not the time to do them I should have been born twins!!
