I solved that problem on my lathe by replacing the socket grub-screw with a normal hex head, and offsetting the DRO scale from the cross-slide with a couple of spacers. I had to check the required clearance and ensure I had a thin enough spanner, of course.
Unfortunately, this created another problem - the DRO scale then interfered with the saddle-lock bolt, which I had to change too.
