Arvid, I am using a 46 grit wheel on the grinder for roughing out HSS tool blanks. And even that seems to take forever.
For finishing and touch-up I use my belt sander which usually has a 180 grit belt on it. I have finer grit belts as well but they never seem to make it onto the grinder.
If I had the room and the money, I would have a second grinder with finer wheels instead.
The green wheels that came with my grinder looked like they were made from the stuff that gets washed out of a cement mixer at the end of the day, with a little Krylon thrown on for color.
Those went straight from the box to the trash can.
