Trunnion ram bearing fix

The thickness of the plate is 3/8" ? If so I can see why it went out of true during the welding. It seems to be very poorly engineered. a one inch Dia pin held in only a 3/8" plate doesn't sound like it would hold up very long.
Any way to accomodate a thicker plate?
