I think the bezel is plastic although I'm not 100% sure of that.

I have some "Turtle Wax" rubbing compound for the cars, so I guess I'll give that a go and see what happens. I doubt I can make it much worse than it already is.

I've been tempted to try one of those 3M headlight polishing kits.
