HI none of this how to is mine but thought it would be good to post. Right, you need to make up a bolt but don't have the right size hex bar. Get some hex bar and drill and tap it to the thread your bolt needs to be. Then chuck up your stock that you are making the bolt out of. Cut the thread and check that it fits your hex bar. One thing that you should not do is put a milling cutter in your lathes chuck. If it doesn't have soft jaws make up a split collar out of brass to go over the shaft of the cutter. Next put the hex bar in the tool holder and adjust till the bolt center is on center then put the desired miller in the chuck and start milling. Once you have done one side turn over and do the next and so on till you have gone all the way around. Will post pics of this being done soon. bob

Nicely shown and as most of us know milling on a lathe isn't the easiest of tasks to do.

Yes John I'll work on that, my little Smithy is a good fit for me right now. It is capable of much more than I am at this point.
