Finally got around to getting a steady rest for the lathe. Going to need one for an upcoming project.
I've been looking for letter transfer punches for a while. Found them at Little Machine Shop.

Since I'm going to be replacing the head stock bearings soon, I thought I may as well replace the plastic gears with metal gears while I've got it torn apart.

Why would you be replacing the bearings on a nearly new mill?
Full of ideas, but slow to produce parts

Not the mill, the mini lathe. Replacing the ball bearings with angular contact bearings.

I received a couple of things last week, and just got around to putting them where they belong.

First was a large Starrett poster (free from their website) that I cut down slightly to fit in a poster frame so it would stay clean.  Easy to read all the way across the shop, so no more squinting at the 8.5x11 laminated sheet I had before.

And next was the collet rack that I have been wanting for a while.  Last one, and it was cheap - probably because it doesn't have that fancy hammered paint like the other ones.

Also visible (top right) is the collet stop I got right around the same time.  Shars brand.  Except for the gritty grease covering it, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of it.  Threads are clean and burr free, and it threads smoothly into all the collets I tried.  I have a total of 22 5C collets, so this should give me enough space for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for that. I've needed one for quite a while but most places no longer give them out for free.

Vinny,

On the starrett website click on Catalogs. Then near the bottom is Order Literature. Then you need to either log in or create an account. Once in, Click on Conversion Charts and it's the first one. I also clicked on the PDF so I have an electronic copy as well.

Yup, you definitely had to dig for it. I can find a direct link to it if you need it.
