Help 16 ER AG60 THREADING INSERTS
#1
Hi Guys
We want to buy the above Inserts for UNC, UNF and our Metric External Threading, really hoping (albeit doubtfully), that a batch of these will suffice for most Pitches from 0.5mm to 3.0mm (as Advertised).
Problem is some Sellers refer to these as a "Partial Profile", which we understand (again doubtfully), to mean that it would not be used to cut the final thread.
Is our understanding accurate and is this the correct way to go ??
The Prices of some are luring as we need not dig too deep into our (shallow) pocket. And we need not buy a particular Insert for a specific Pitch.
Would immensely appreciate feedback from U Guru's on this quandary
TIA

Here's a description of partial and full profile inserts. It might help.

Hello Ed
Thanks for this.
Had a look see. It says...."additional operation to complete the outer/internal Diameter is necessary"
Would this mean that we would still need to use another "Full Profile Insert" to complete the intended Thread ??
Deeply regret bothering U with my blatant questions.
TIA

No, that means you will need to use the insert the same as you would any other thread cutting tool, other than the full profile insert. So you need to keep track of your depth of cut for the thread you're cutting. The partial profile inserts cover a range of threads so make sure you get the ones that will cover the range you need. Full profile threads are for one specific thread so you need a new insert for each thread type you need to cut.

Now U just made our day, Ed. Bless Your soul. Thumbsup
What we like about these Partial Profile A60 Inserts is the versatility and the vast range we could cover in both Metric, UNC and UNF with just one Tool. No need to buy a batch of each Pitch, like the Dealers wanted me to take.
And perusing that Iscar site we reckon their new DECA IQ THREAD - ECO THREAD Toolholder with their TTG-16E-A60 Ten Sided Insert is pure magic !! Just One Insert with access to TEN robust cutting edges!!! This is Tool porn. Have already requested their Price from the local supplier.
Once again, a gracious Thank You for taking time out.
LORD BLESS

With partial profile you machine the stock to the nominal size that you would if you were cutting the thread with a ground HSS bit. For example, for M10 external thread, I would machine the stock to 9.85mm.

With a full profile M10 insert you simply turn the stock to 10mm. The insert then removes the OD once you reach the correct depth, as it forms the crest on the top of the thread. As a result, you get the correct radius for that particular thread profile.
