Todays Project - What did you do today?
Well no ones posting so its wood time again.
The first coat of varnish on the face. Thinned 50/50 with thinner to soak in and seal the wood. This one gets sanded out with 320 grit, then multiple coats of varnish. Haven't decided on what to finish the top with, maybe oil for ease of repair if it gets marked.

Wedding gift for my cousin. Everyone should have a porch swing.

Have got the lathe in a reasonably usable condition and made my first proper item on it. The lathe came with a 5" Crown 3 jaw chuck but no key, so I've made one and I'm quite pleased with the result. Hand filed the square end to fit the 8.5mm socket in the chuck made from an old 5/8" carrage bolt. not sure how it will hold up as it's not hard material but at least I have a key to go on with.

My son and I put a new roof on the cottage last week. The lake side was pretty beat up and starting to leak, so it was past time. My younger son was planning to help as well, but had to opt out at the last minute due to obligations, so I hired a local laborer to help. We tore off the old roof, replaced some rotted roof boards, laid ice shield in all the critical areas and shingled with architectural shingles. We only did the lake side at this time because there is an addition planned for the street side that will change the roofline. Still have to cap the ridge, but I thought I'd wait and do it all at once. Something to look forward to later in the summer. :)
