I bet he will have no trouble finding lots of uses for the UDH, including helical gearing. BTW Pete, excellent job on the casting & machining of the banjo.

Thanks, but there's a reason that I took the photos from 5 feet away! It's functional but the finish is less than pretty. That aside, the ability to produce a finished part from start to finish is very rewarding.

One project for the universal div head is the 127-tooth transposing gear for my lathe, along with the rest of the set that were missing. I'm sure other things will come along. I particularly like the idea of experimenting with helical gears, just for the heck of it. If I ever get the hang of that, I might make all my change gears helical. Although I can barely hear the spur gears over the phase converter anyway...

I strongly recommend fabing up some gear train covers.  I imagine you shut down when you have a visitor, but if you have a senior moment one Ah sh!t ! cancels out at least 100 attaboys.

BTW, don't ask how I know this.

Evening Lads 

Well made a wee bit more progress with my large shelf tonight ,I was pushed on by the arrival  today of my second order of plastic storage tubs . (I needed somewhere to put them )

First section I did the other day , this replaces an older shelf I had up across the door ,this one is higher . The door will be replaced in the spring with something more to my needs ,I really dislike up and over doors . 



So I welded up the right hand section tonight ,I had to use an old oil filed welded to do the welding as I could not get to the MIG  ,way to much crap in the way  




May tackle the left hand leg tomorrow night , well if its not raining .

Made up an oiling gun for the underside of my vehicles. With the amount of salt and liquid deicer they use here a layer of no-drip I think its vegetable based oil helps slow down the rust process.
I had a commercial gun that used a small canister that you were forever refilling. In the process I was covered with the stuff.
Had a pressure pot for paint kicking around, and modified an old high pressure paint gun. Drilled out the paint nozzle to .1 inch and opened up the front nozzle and silver soldered a length of 3/8 ss tubing.
With 40 psi on the pot and about the same on the gun it worked incredible. No mess at all and sprayed about 4 litres on each vehicle in about 20 minute each.

Are you spraying the entire underside? If so, I would think you'd make something that you just drive the car over and it sprays while the car slowly moves over it.

Not metal related in any way, but an enjoyable way to spend a Friday off work. Penmaking!

I have been hunting, or at least going to the hunting camp for about 21 years now. My Father-in-Law, Don, invited me for the first time the year before I married his daughter. Don passed of cancer 2-1/2 years ago, and I haven't hunted for 4 or 5 years now. But I still go down to hang with the (old) guys, who are all friends of Don from way back. I'm the "kid" at 55! Since they're all getting up there in years, the camp (which is jointly owned) is now up for sale. So it may be the last time we all get together at the old place.

We built the cabin up there by hand (no electricity) with rough sawn red oak. I took home some of the leftover boards, and have had them stashed in the garage for well over a decade. Today I sawed off a chunk and cut it up into pen blanks. Bullet pens, because it is, after all, hunting camp. These all got made today, although I did some of the prep work last night.
