I wish! That would make it easy but no bolt holes anywhere except the four base mounting holes. That's why I was considering using the turret spider and some bar stock. That would put the lifting point at the very top.

Sorry - I thought from an earlier post that you had put the spider and turret back on. I wouldn't lift from just the spider but I would with the turret in place

I almost bought a hilo camper once. But in this case, hilo = forklift. Must be Detroit slang.

I talked about doing that but decided not to. I'm not going to lift it just by the spider. I'm going to use either some bar stock or plate that will be mounted in place of the turret along with the spider and put a lifting eye in the plate.

So here's my latest idea. Two 3/4" thick aluminum plates bolted in place of the turret with a lifting ring bolted to the two plates with a 5/8" bolt. The turret bolts are a strange thread at 1/2-10 so I need to use them to bolt the plates down to the turret spot using the spider which is tapped to receive the strange sized bolts. Thus the need for the 2 1/2" spacers under the bolt heads. I guess I'm wondering if 1 1/2" thick aluminum can support 700 - 800lbs of cast iron? I'm guessing it can but I'd rather ask before I hurt the mill or myself (in order of importance).

You think 1/2-10 is odd, I have a 1/2-12 tap!

1/2-12 is British standard Whitworth Vinny. A lot of the bolts on my old lathe are 1/2-12 BSW.

If its just to lift it and put the skid under it Ed I'd just use a piece of 2x2 x1/4 angle across the top and drop 2 - 3/8 bolts through the spider holes with flat washers and a nut. Drill a hole in the middle of the leg pointing up to bolt a loop of chain to lift with and you should be good. Or to make it even simpler bring the bolts through the end links of a piece of chain then down through the angle and the spider.
