Question on Albrecht Keyless Chuck
#1
I won the bid on ebay for Albrecht Keyless Chuck 1/8-5/8.
Is there a standard taper for the chuck?
There are some arbors listed for different chucks but I want a ½ to 5/8 straight arbor.
To get an arbor with possible zero run out I may end up making one between centers on my Atlas lathe.
Until I get delivery of the chuck I will not know if it has a arbor for a lathe, an R-8 or a straight arbor it was not in the description.
If the arbor is straight I am good to go if it is not to long.
The reason for a straight arbor is to keep the drill chuck as short as possible.
Please excuse my lack of proper names for the chuck parts in question.

Any information will be helpful.

Seems you would have a model 100 0160. Those were available with integral Morse Taper or R8 shanks, as well as socket for JT6. You'll have to wait and see what you bought, unless you have a link to the website or some documentation.

Here's a link that may shed some light on it.

I have two Albrecht chucks. One is the 0-3mm on the 1/2" sensitive drill shank, a dream to use with micro drills. The other a 0-1/2" on an odd 5/8" straight shank. You are correct in that the shorter straight shank is a little less likely to require dropping the knee of the machine to get it in when you've located position of a hole, or at least minimize the drop. The shank on mine is only about 2-1/2" long and that's plenty. No visually detectable runout on either chuck!

I also won a "Albrecht 1/2" keyless chuck with No. 2 morse taper. One jaw has damage near end about
3/16" in length(see pic). Otherwise chuck works ok."
Any clue on the taper for the chuck on this one.
Since it ended up being $31.00 Plus $5.25 I thought I would take a chance on it also.

I may use the 1/2' on my mill and the 5/8" on my lathe.

I have been bidding on Albrecht keyless chuck's for a month or more but looked at them on many of the youtube videos.

It sounds like a decent deal, as long as replacement jaws are available for a reasonable cost and you don't mind taking it apart to do the job.

I'd love to see photos of the chuck(s?) you bought.

I received the 1/8 to 5/8 chuck on Saturday it has the 5/8" straight arbor shank.
I used it in my Jet 18" mill/drill it will take getting use to but it worked perfect.
The weight is 3lbs according to my fruit spring scale.
I am still waiting on the 1/16 to 1/2 inch chuck it was to be delivered today but alas it was not in the mail.

I will take a picture of both of the chucks the 5/8" in the mill/drill the 1/2" sitting on my 5' Wilton Vise I bought a couple of weeks ago.
After I figure how to post a picture.

Thanks for all your help.

If you're using it on a "mill/drill", I would strongly advise against ever using it for the "mill" part of that machine. Side loading is a bad idea for a good Albrecht!

Thanks for the info but it is a lesson I have learned the hard way with a cheap drill chuck.
Tried to mill with a 2 flute mill bit I did not have a collet for popped out the chuck messed up the part all in one move.
Since I have purchased more R-8 collets to fill in the missing sizes.
