Ed,

Let me know if you go with the Valenite one. If so, I've got a pile of inserts and want to send you a few!

Oh, that would be wonderful! I think you just made my decision so much more easier. Smile

Very nice Ed. Once Ken has a chance to send you some inserts there will be no stopping you!

Ed,

I'll be going over to the shop later this morning and I'll put a few inserts in a mailing envelope for you.

I completely forgot to say anything about the need for an insertion/extraction tool! It's a PT1211, but I have one and know it's simple to make. I'll take a photo and some measurement for you.

The tool is just a long hex, square or round shaft with two pins and a pointy end. The pointy end just sticks into the blade behind the insert to pry it out. The two pins lever the insert in. You put one in the hole on the blade, the other pin lands along the front of the insert below the cutting edge. You lever the insert in until it shoulders out on the cutout in the blade.

Here's a crappy photo of the tool, they're in the right side of the photo with the blue rubbery handles. You can't really see the tapered tip. I had 3 of them in the two sizes. I think I'm down to one of each now from being too generous.

Ken,

Thanks a bunch for sharing your inserts with me. The tool, I can make easy enough so no big deal, and I enjoy making tools. Smile

Well Ed, as it turns out I do indeed have two of the small extraction/insertion tools. It was one of the larger ones I'd given away. The part number on the ones I've got isn't the same as what is given in the 2007 Valenite Turning catalog I have, but it seems to be the same. I tried it on the VG101 25 15 blade I have that is the slightly narrower but taller one you bought and it fits perfect. I want to send you this one:

The bad news is that I have but ONE insert in the 15 or 20 "seat size" that we both need for those blades. I'm going to order 6 each of a couple of sizes for us and send you 3 of each. No charge! Do send me your preferred mailing address via PM of email. I'll have them in the mail by Wednesday.

Ken,

That is very generous of you. Worthy

I wish I had something I could send you in return.
