That is one of the interesting things about Access. You don't need to save the data. Once entered, it stays entered! This can also be a problem though, as if you make a mistake, you can't just back out like you would in a 'normal' programme. If I ever need to do any development work I always make a back up of the current copy first.

In an earlier version of the database, any of the look up fields would refresh the list as soon as it was closed. So, if you did add a manufacturer, it would appear in the drop down list without the need to exit the main form. However, in the process of adding in the find as you type feature this was lost. I have been unable to figure out how to restore it.

However, in reality, once you have made a list of all the manufacturers and added them, this isn't such a big problem. Same with tool locations, you add a new one when you get a new tool box or peg board etc.

I'll look at updating the manual but I have to set some time aside, as I have lost the Word document that I used to create the pdf

tried again today to use the program it seems as though i have to change something in the program or access as my cfomputer runs 64 bit. does anyone know how to help me out. the computer dummy alias tom

Exactly what kind of problems are you having trying to run it?
What version of Windows are you using?
What version of Access are you using?

windows 7 home premium 64 bit, access 2010,the expression on openas the account property setting bla bla must be updated for 64 bit systems. review and update declare settings and mark them with a ptrsafe attribute.

My laptop is running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium and Access 2010 so I'll try it out on that computer and see what happens. Is there any chance you can do a screen capture of that error message and post the results as an uploaded JPEG image file? That would help immensely.

How about taking a picture of your computer screen with the error message showing and then upload the picture?

I haven't done much with it for awhile. I really need to get my tools inventoried for insurance purposes so at some point I'll just have to bite the bullet and sit down and do it.

New purchases are easy, as you have everything at hand. Existing items is what takes the time, especially photographing them. It is one of those things that you need to set aside some time.

Initially, this all started off as an Excel spreadsheet but it soon got too complicated and difficult to accommodate some of the features. So when I got around to building the database, I was able to import the Excel data. I still have the Excel printout, which I use when taking pics. This way, I do them in order of how they appear in the database. Although, if you have a laptop or a computer in your shop it will be just as easy.
